Fifteen of my poems published in Diogen
The Swiss publisher Einhorn Verlag (Unicorn Publishers), run by Samira Bergman Karabeg, has published a handful of books under Einhorn Verlag and Dhira Verlag imprints. Publisher Bergman also produces two magazines, Diogen and Maxminus. Diogen has an annual print edition and an ongoing online presence, both under the editorship of Sabahudin Hadžialić. Recently I responded to a call from Diogen to send one poem for a competition. While the contest results won’t be in until the end of January, I later received an email on behalf of Sabahudin Hadžialić, requesting that I send fifteen poems of my choosing. So, I did.
And on December 25, 2012 (Christmas Day for the Western Christians, religious and secular), I received another email telling me that all fifteen (!) had been published online in Diogen. I am very excited and pleased to have been asked to send these poems and for them to then appear online in Diogen.
The language of the editor’s introduction to my work is Croatian (translated into English). Sabahudin Hadžialić lives in Bosnia Herzogevina. Samira Bergman Karabeg has an address in Switzerland. I am American, but live in Jerusalem. This is truly an international publishing experience. From the editor, Sabahudin Hadžialić, here is the introduction to my poems:
Onaj koji priča…pričeNe libeći se suštine unutar samog iskaza, pred nama je ogoljena misao priče. Michael (Dickel) Dekel je samonastajuća priča per se, dok pokušava poezijom nutrinu misli doseći. Da, uz predanost društvu u pojedincu, ali i vica verse, pojedincu koji svojom participacijom čini sastavni dio čovječanstva, pjesnik ogoljuje sopstvene želje. Da ostane, postane, opstane. The one who is telling…storiesNot avoiding the substance within the statement, in front of us we have the shorn thought of the story. Michael (Dickel) Dekel is [his own self]-creation story per se, while he is trying, with the poetry, to reach the inwardness of the thought. Yes, with the commitment towards the society in the individual, but also vice verse, to an individual whose participation is an integral part of humanity, the poet shorns his own desires. A 28 December, 2012, press release from Diogen indicates that I will be included in the print publication, due out in March 2013. Stay tuned for updates.

This is great news. All 15! And a sestina is included in that bunch. (I have never written a sestina that I liked so this is an amazing feat to me). You rock! Congrats.
